Updated Requirements for Traveling to Panama from Colombia in 2024

If you are planning a trip to Panama from Colombia, it is essential to meet the following requirements to ensure a smooth entry:

Valid Passport: Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months upon entering the country.

Exit Ticket: You must present a return ticket to Colombia or onward to another destination within the authorized period. Traditionally, Colombian tourists could stay up to 90 days in Panama; however, since September 2023, restrictions have been implemented limiting tourist stays to a maximum of 15 days for certain travelers, depending on their nationality and profile assessed by immigration authorities.

Financial Solvency: It is necessary to demonstrate sufficient funds to cover expenses during your stay. As of late 2023, the required amount has increased from $500 to $1,000 USD, which you can justify through cash or credit/debit cards, regardless of the duration of your visit. Upon arrival at the airport, it is common for authorities to request evidence of these funds; therefore, it is advisable to carry updated bank statements or balance proofs of your cards.

Proof of Accommodation: You must provide a confirmed hotel reservation or an invitation letter indicating where you will be staying during your stay. It is advisable to have these documents printed or digitally accessible to present to immigration authorities.

Justification of Travel Purpose: Although not always requested, it is prudent to be prepared to explain and, if possible, document the purpose of your visit, whether for tourism, business, or other reasons.

Travel Insurance: Although not a mandatory requirement, it is highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical eventualities and other unforeseen events during your stay in Panama. Some credit cards offer this benefit; otherwise, you can purchase suitable travel insurance before your departure.

Health Requirements: Since September 2022, Panama has lifted restrictions related to COVID-19. It is not necessary to present vaccination certificates, negative tests, or health declaration forms to enter the country.
